Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

Mark 11.12-14,20-24

18On His way back to the city early next morning, Jesus was hungry. 19He saw a fig tree by the side of the road and went to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. So he said to the tree, “You will never again bear fruit!” At once the fig tree dried up.

20 The disciples saw this and were astounded. “How did the fig tree dry up so quickly?” they asked.

21Jesus answered, “I assure you that if you believe and do not doubt, you will be able to do what I have done to this fig tree. And not only this, but you will even be able to say to this hill, ‘Get up and throw yourself in the sea,’ and it will. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

SAY NO TO DEPENDENCE, YES TO INDEPENDENCE

The wage and salary war has been going on for generations. What’s the bet after we have all gone to see our maker our children will be standing in our shoes! Begging business owners to pay them a fair wage. Being thankful and gracious for the pay they get every pay day, even though they know they are worth more? Since when did we start to settle? We are teaching our children to be settlers. Wake up! The era of settlers is truly over, we have arrived! We need to teach our children lessons of self-worth, give them the tools toward freedom financially and get them to not ask but to demand and expect better. Not from any government agency or business owner but from themselves!

When I think of my next generation, I don’t think of my children. I think of my grand-children! What are my 6 daughters going to teach my grand-children? It makes me sick to think that my children will take their children to school, get them educated by people who are earning $35 -$65k p.a and then be over joyed when they get a job with an employer who will give them more work than they are paid for and less pay than they deserve. Generation after generation, its never going to end unless we start to work smarter and work together.

Here is the reality. The business owner will always, always pay you just enough to keep you coming back every day. The government will always, always pay you just enough to keep you dependent, quiet and thankful for the pennies they give you.

I don’t want my children or any child from this day forward to think that somehow, the government owes them money, the government needs to house them, employers need to pay them more money. No, we need to teach our children that they need to pay themselves what they are worth and they need to build their own homes and they need to teach as many people in this world as possible to do the same.

I applaud and love the work of social workers in our communities. Your hands are blessed and your hearts are cherished.

It is time for massive, colossal change and instead of enabling people our first priority and responsibility is to empower people. The ‘Working Poor’ is a Label not welcomed by me.

Every single person who decided to do something good. Began with a thought! If you think that you deserve handouts forever and that government, employers, society owes you something. Then generation after generation will be doing the same! When are we going to step away from the ‘Donate’ button and replace it with the ‘Enable’ button? Situations don’t change, people change.

We have to re invent ourselves, and unlearn the victim mentality, habits and pessimistic dialogue that plague and stop us from moving forward into abundance! The poverty mindset must be destroyed to make room for an Abundance Mindset.

It is blatantly obvious that there are more poor to middle class people than wealthy people in this whole entire world. Which means AT EVERYTIME IN ALL OF HISTORY…The MAJORITY WILL WIN IF THE GOAL AND DREAM IS BIG ENOUGH, IS GREAT ENOUGH, HUMBLE AND POWERFUL ENOUGH AND IF IT IS IN ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN WANTS. GOD IS A GREAT AND LOVING GOD, AND HE DID NOT DIE ON THE CROSS TO SEE US BEG AT GOVERNMEN HOUSES AND REMAIN VICTIMS AND BURDENS OF THIS EARTH.

WE HAVE MONEY IN THE COMMUNITY – WE NEED TO LEVERAGE IT AND WORK SMARTER!

In 2010, 184,000 Samoans were living in the United States of America.

Remittance Statistics

World Bank (2012)

Estimated bilateral remittances: US$ 128 mn

Estimated remittances from Australia to Samoa: US$ 22 mn

Estimated remittances from New Zealand to Samoa: US$ 60 mn

Estimated remittances from the United States of America to Samoa: US$ 28 mn

TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THIS MONEY GOING INTO SAMOA!! BY THESE FIGURES EVERY SAMOAN LIVING BACK HOME AND OVERSEAS SHOULD BE LIVING IN MANSIONS, GOING TO THE BEST SCHOOLS HAVING A GREAT LIFE STYLE. SO WHY IS IT THAT MOST SAMOANS ARE LIVING IN HOUSING AND HAVE BAD CREDIT OR WORSE BANKRUPT. BECAUSE – ITS NOT HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE, ITS HOW YOU LEVERAGE THAT MONEY AND MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU. AND JUST IN CASE SOMEONE QUOTES ‘ MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL’…WRONG…’ ITS THE LOVE OF MONEY THAT IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL’.

IF YOUR POOR BUT HAVE A GREAT AND HUMBLE HEART, YOU WILL BE GREAT AND HUMBLE WHEN YOUR WEALTHY.

AMERICA, GERMANY ETC DIDN’T KICK NEW ZEALAND OUT OF SAMOA 50 YEARS AGO, OUR ANCESTORS DID, FOR OUR INDEPENDENCE. THIS IS THE GENERATION TO MAKE THEIR SACRIFICES WORTH IT. WE LOST GREAT LEADERS DURING THE EPIDEMIC AND A GREAT GREAT LEADER DURING THE MAU. WE HAVE TO MAKE THEM PROUD. IF WE OVERSEAS CAN SEND THIS MUCH MONEY TO SAMOA, WE CAN SPEND A COUPLE OF HUNDRED DOLLARS TO START AN EMPIRE OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS OWNERS.

IN ORDER TO LIVE AND PROSPER IN A NEW WORLD – LEARN NEW IDEAS

So we have come from Samoa and settled all around the world. Great stuff. In the 50 years that Samoa celebrated Independence. Have we prospered as a people? Are we continuing to grow and learn and push ourselves, challenge ourselves? Or are we just happy as a coconut to go to work everyday and sweat away and do the same thing year after year?

I think only about 1% of Samoans overseas and Samoa are successful and are representing the poor Samoan and getting paid more money.  These are the Samoans who are stretching their brains, stepping our of comfort zones.

Becoming an employee for a little while is necessary, staying an employee for life is an excuse. You are a child of God and he sacrificed his life to save yours which means he expects more from us as people on this planet. At the end of the day whether a person is a manager of a company or the cleaner, they speak the same language ‘Sam Cawthorn’. I call this ‘Boss Trap’.

What will it take for you to stop the cycle of mediocrity and living from pay day to pay day?. When did we become satisfied with that?. Would our people who fought for our physical freedom during the Mau movement be ashamed at how complacent we have become and how little we have done with the freedom they fought so hard to gain for us?

Ua lava lega faigaluega till the death bed. It is our duty to ensure that our people are both physically and phycologically independent from the colonial bondage mentality.  E le faapea la’a stop uma galuega ma o ile fale. No we all need that weekly income for now. BUT FAI SE PLAN MO LE LUMANAI.
